varideskDallas (SMU) Nov. 30, 2016 – VARIDESK®, maker of adjustable standing desks, was revealed to be the fastest-growing entrepreneurial company in the Dallas area Tuesday evening at the 26th Annual SMU Cox Dallas 100™ Awards Ceremony and Banquet at the Omni Dallas Hotel, presented by the Cox School’s Caruth Institute for Entrepreneurship.

VARIDESK®, based in Coppell, manufactures and ships fully assembled adjustable desks that can be mounted on top of existing desks. The company offers the adjustable desk as a solution for employees with chronic back pain to “work smarter, work healthier, and perform at their very best.”

“This year’s No.1 winning company, VARIDESK, is a great example of the wide variety of entrepreneurial companies that contribute to the area’s economy,” said Simon Mak, Ph.D., associate director of the Caruth Institute for Entrepreneurship at SMU Cox. “We never cease to be impressed by the robust group of fast growing entrepreneurial companies that are represented by the Dallas 100™ each year. These entrepreneurs have turned their dreams into reality, provided jobs for thousands, and collectively help make the Dallas Metroplex an economic powerhouse.”

For 26 years, the Caruth Institute has annually ranked the top 100 Dallas entrepreneurial companies based on sales growth and absolute dollar growth over the previous three years. This year’s program examined sales from over 250 companies for 2013 to 2015, the last year for which complete data is available. The winners represent a broad spectrum of Dallas-area businesses—everything from information technology to healthcare and a wide variety in between. The top 100 fastest-growing companies were announced at the awards ceremony. VARIDESK, which bills itself as the “height adjustable standing desk,” had the biggest percentage sales increase and dollar growth for 2013 to 2015, as determined by the calculations of the accounting firm BKD LLP CPAs and Advisors.

Simon Mak, associate director of the Caruth Institute for Entrepreneurship, presents the Dallas 100 award for fastest growing private company in North Texas to Jason McCann, CEO of Coppell-based VARIDESK.

The second fastest-growing business in North Texas, according to this year’s Dallas 100 awards, is Arcis Golf. The Dallas-based company owns about 70 golf courses around the country under the brands Castlegate and Ironbridge. SMU alumnus Blake Walker, who earned his Bachelor of Art in 1988 is chairman, CEO and president of the company, which he spun off from an equity firm. Several members of the Arcis executive leadership team are also SMU alumni, including Chief Financial Officer Julian Potter, who earned his Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in 1989; General Counsel Scott Siddons, who holds two degrees from SMU Cox, a BBA, which he completed cum laude in 1988 and an Executive MBA, which he completed with honors in 2008; and Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing Chris Crocker, who graduated with his BBA in 1988.

Dallas 100™, co-founded by the Caruth Institute, honors the ingenuity, commitment and perseverance of the fastest-growing privately held entrepreneurial businesses in the Dallas area. According to Caruth Institute data, this year’s winning companies collectively generated $3.7 billion in sales in 2015, and grew at an average annual growth rate of 96 percent per year for each of the last two years.

“The key statistics of the Dallas 100™ consistently amaze,” said Jerry White, the Linda A. and Kenneth R. Morris Endowed Director of the Caruth Institute for Entrepreneurship, who has been at the helm of the event since it began in 1990. “These outstanding companies created more than 10,000 jobs in the last two years—jobs that are critical to fueling the Dallas economic engine.”

The Dallas 100™, presented by the Caruth Institute at SMU Cox, was sponsored this year by  Avison Young; BKD LLP; CARR Intellectual Property Law; The Dallas Business Journal; Evos Financial; Executive Press; KRLD 1080 News Radio; Tekzenit and Texas Capital Bank. The event recognizes privately held corporations, proprietorships or partnerships headquartered in the Dallas area that often don’t get attention, but which have created jobs and generated wealth for their founders and employees and enhanced the area economy.
