SMU will join communities across the U.S. Oct. 6 for the 32nd annual crime and drug prevention event.

National Night Out

DALLAS (SMU)— SMU will partner with neighborhoods throughout Dallas and thousands of communities nationwide Tuesday, Oct. 6, for the 32nd annual National Night Out crime and drug prevention event.

 

What:

SMU National Night Out will include carnival games, contests, safety demonstrations, a raffle and appearances by the SMU Police Department, University Park Police and Fire Departments, Mothers Against Drunk Drivers and the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission.

SMU students and campus-area neighbors are invited to attend.
   

 

When:

Tuesday, Oct. 6

5-7:30 p.m. – Food, raffles, games, dunk tank

5:30 p.m. - CareFlight Helicopter Landing

6:00 p.m. - Dorm Burning Simulations (once with sprinkler and once without)
   

 

Where:

SMU Flagpole
3300 Dyer Street
   

 

Cost:

$10 for food and beverage tickets
   

National Night OutSMU’s local National Night Out is co-sponsored by the SMU Police Department. The National Association of Town Watch event will involve more than 16,000 communities from all 50 states. National Night Out is designed to: 

  • Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness
  • Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime efforts
  • Strengthen neighborhood spirit and policeĀ­ community partnerships
  • Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized, working together, and fighting back
