Jerry GreenfieldDALLAS (SMU) – Jerry Greenfield is most famous for knowing a thing or two about making a darn good scoop of ice cream, but to hear the Ben & Jerry’s cofounder tell it, his true passion is giving back to his community.

Check the “Values” page on the company website, and “(Making) the world a better place,” is one of Ben & Jerry’s three mission guides.

Greenfield will speak about the importance of community stewardship at a Delta Gamma Lectureship in Values and Ethics, hosted by SMU’s Maguire Center for Ethics & Public Responsibility at 7 p.m., Sept. 15, in SMU’s Greer Garson Theatre. The lecture is free and open to the public.

“We hope our future SMU business leaders consider the ethical and social responsibility that laudable companies, like Ben & Jerry’s, strive to uphold,” says Rita Kirk, Director of the Cary M. Maguire Center for Ethics & Public Responsibility. “As Jerry Greenfield will point out, you can have a lot of fun and run a successful business while doing so."
