It's On Us

SMU applauds the launch of “It’s On Us,” the White House campaign to stop sexual assault on college campuses announced September 19.

It's On UsThe campaign asks everyone to take responsibility to prevent sexual assault and to create an environment where sexual assault is unacceptable. SMU shares these goals and has in place programs, policies and resources aimed at supporting students and preventing sexual assault. (Learn more at smu.edu/LiveResponsibly.)

“The welfare and safety of our students is our highest priority. We strongly support the effort to prevent and raise awareness of behavior that violates state and federal law, SMU policy and the values of our community,” says Lori S. White, Vice President for Student Affairs at SMU. “Our students have developed and promoted a related statement of values, as well as an awareness campaign called ‘Not On My Campus.’ Today, we urge members of our community to join in taking the ‘It’s On Us’ pledge.”

The pledge, which can be signed online at ItsOnUs.org, asks us to:

  • Recognize that non-consensual sex is sexual assault.
  • Identify situations in which sexual assault may occur.
  • Intervene in situations where consent has not or cannot be given.
  • Create an environment in which sexual assault is unacceptable and survivors are supported.

Let’s take action to support healthy campus environments for living and learning.  Learn more at smu.edu/LiveResponsibly.
