With three young trustees, DeSoto school board gets youthful injection

As Warren Seay Jr. sat at an admissions committee meeting at Southern Methodist University in 2009, he thought of students back home in DeSoto.
The group talked about how to recruit more minority students in the area, Seay said. Cities like Coppell, McKinney and Plano came up, but not southern Dallas County municipalities like DeSoto.
“I knew that our kids were just as competitive, just as smart, just as capable,” said Seay, a 2006 DeSoto grad.
Seay, then 20, decided to run for the DeSoto ISD board of trustees. He won, making him the second-youngest trustee ever in the state. Two years later, he was named board president.
Now 25, Seay has company on the board in 30-year-old Aubrey C. Hooper and 25-year-old Carl Sherman Jr. District officials say the three have brought a fresh perspective, as college readiness and technology take on increased roles in the classroom....
