SMU celebrates 30th annual National Night Out Oct. 1

On Tuesday, Oct. 1, SMU will partner with neighborhoods throughout Dallas and thousands of communities nationwide for the 30th annual National Night Out crime and drug prevention event.

National Night Out generic photoDALLAS (SMU)—On Tuesday, Oct. 1, SMU will partner with neighborhoods throughout Dallas and thousands of communities nationwide for the 30th annual National Night Out crime and drug prevention event.

National Night Out, sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch, will involve more than 15,000 communities across the nation. The event is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support for and participation in local anti-crime efforts, and strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships.

The event will include carnival games, contests, safety demonstrations, a raffle and appearances by the University Park and Highland Park police and fire departments.

Bishop Boulevard: Mustang Express Rider Advisory

Mustang ExpressThe north end of Bishop Boulevard will close to all vehicular traffic at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013, to accommodate National Night Out activities.

There will be no service to Mustang Express stops on Bishop Boulevard after 4 p.m. Tuesday. Instead, Mustang Express shuttles will stop in front of the Hughes-Trigg Student Center. Mustang Express riders who normally use the bus stops on Bishop should board the shuttles at Hughes-Trigg Student Center.

Normal service will resume Wednesday morning, Oct. 2.
