Southern Methodist University students wore hooded sweatshirts and rallied for justice Monday in the shooting death of Florida teen Trayvon Martin. SMU students held a remembrance gathering, a silent march and a candlelight vigil.

Renatta Nance, an SMU junior, said the events were organized by student activists and campus groups, including the SMU Black Law Students Association, Association of Black Students and College Hispanic American Students. Students at the University of Texas at Arlington and Paul Quinn College have also demonstrated.

Martin, 17, was killed by a neighborhood watch leader who told police he acted in self-defense. Police officials have been the target of protests around the country after deciding not to arrest the man.
