Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Stewart Copeland
to conduct a mini-residency at SMU
Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Stewart Copeland will conduct a mini-residency at SMU this week.
Stewart Copeland, founding member of "The Police" and member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, will conduct a mini-residency at the Meadows School of the Arts on April 11-13.
Copeland's residency will focus on his work as a composer. He will give guest lectures to the music composition and thefilmand media arts students about composing for orchestra, opera and ballet, as well as scoring for film and TV.
He also will work with the Meadows Percussion Ensemble, which is performing four of Stewart’s compositions at its spring concert on April 11 at 8 p.m. Stewart will not perform with the group but will be in the audience.
On the last day of his visit, Copeland will give a public talk about his career, including his experiences with "The Police."
Copeland was in Dallas a year ago when the group D’Drum— which includes Meadows faculty —presented the world premiere of his work “Gamelan D’Drum” with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra at the Meyerson Symphony Center. (Read Art & Seek article.)

| What: | Stewart Copeland, founder of renowned rock group The Police and a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, will give a public talk about his musical career as part of his three-day residency at the Meadows School. Although most people know him as a rock musician, Copeland has also composed operas, ballets, chamber music pieces and some of the world’s most innovative and groundbreaking film scores, including those for Oliver Stone’s Wall Street and Francis Ford Coppola’s Rumble Fish. | |
