The featured documentary is "Living With the Trinity." The winner of the 2012 Green Minute Video Contest will be announced, and winning videos from all four contest years will be played. Refreshments will be provided.

“Living With the Trinity,” which runs just under an hour, explores the conflict that developed in the early 1970s over plans to transform the entire length of the Trinity River into a barge canal linking Dallas and Fort Worth to the Gulf of Mexico. The controversy placed Texas in the national spotlight and spawned a lawsuit against a proposed dam at the mouth of the river near Houston that signaled a new era in environmental politics. The documentary was produced by KERA in 2009.

The SMU Sustainability Committee is a group of faculty, students and staff who promote sustainability and increased environmental awareness on campus. The committee sponsors activities and events that encourage lifelong environmentally conscious behavior, and works to promote wise use of campus resources. Oct. 24, 2012 is the tenth annual Campus Sustainability Day, devoted to the achievements and challenges for the faculty, students and staff who are integrating sustainability principles into their institutions and surrounding communities.

The Society for College and University Planning founded Campus Sustainability Day in 2003, and a team of organizations and partners came together in 2011 to more broadly engage the higher education community in the program.  Information about Campus Sustainability Day events and opportunities nationwide is now available on a website hosted by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) dedicated to sharing Campus Sustainability Day events and ideas.
