SMU is monitoring New Mexico wildfire and smoke situation

The Southern Methodist University campus at Taos, New Mexico, remains open and all classes and events are being held as scheduled, although the campus is experiencing some smoke from wildfires near Los Alamos some 60 miles to the southwest.

SMU is continuously monitoring air quality at the campus using detection equipment and visual observation and will notify the campus community if a danger exists.  Those with breathing concerns and other health issues should contact their physicians. SMU will update this information if the situation changes.

The New Mexico Department of Health issued an air quality advisory on June 27, saying that smoke from the Las Conchas and Pacheco wildfires near Los Alamos could adversely affect air quality in the north central area of the state. The department has asked that those with health-related issues due to smoke call the New Mexico Nurse Advice Line at 1-877-725-2552.
